| Current courses on offer are :
Drama and Video
This course enables the young people to create their own short
scenes with support from the tutor using drama strategies such
as improvisation, role play, forum and teacher in role. The young
people work together to develop their own drama. The young people
use a digital video camera to record the drama.
Digital Photography
This course enables young people to learn about photography. The young people
have an opportunity to use digital cameras to take their own photographs. With
support from the tutor, the young people choose their own photographic assignment.
Using computer software the young people download these photographs and other
images. The young people then manipulate their images to create their very own
unique designs which are printed onto CD covers, posters or T-shirts.
Music Making
This course enables young people to learn more about making music in a creative
way including - sounds capes, music composition and arrangement using various
software programmes. Young people learn what sounds can do when manipulated using
software programmes and also learn about combining various sounds and musical
notes together in order to compose a piece of music. The young people compose
their own music using the software programmes and specialist equipment, with
support from the tutor.
Dance and Video
Making dances for video can be an exciting extension of two art forms. Video
can enable the illusion of making dance movements which may be actually impossible
to perform 'live' and to use repetition and unusual angles to create original
dances. This course enables young people to learn skills in dance and choreography
and basic filming and editing skills in order to create dance movements and sequences
especially for video.
Living History
Using archaeological investigation, artefact handling sessions, storytelling
and role-play, this course enables young people to bring the story of Prestongrange
Industrial Museum alive. The information that the young people gather from the
site is then used to recreate a historical photograph. The young people also
develop short performance 'video-clips' that re-enact different stages of the
site's history. Young people use computer technology to manipulate the photos
and participate in the editing process of the video clips.
Creative Writing
This course enables young people to express their feelings through writing using
a PC or laptop. Working with the tutor the young people are introduced to a variety
of methods for writing poetry and short stories. The young people then create
their own newsletter for their school with illustrations downloaded from the
web.
Design and the Computer
This course begins with a introduction to Architecture, Landscape Architecture
and Industrial Design. Using software, the young people learn about the tools
that designers can use to express ideas. Using the school as a site for potential
improvements, the young people devise their own design ideas and generate computer
drawings of their designs.
The work created by the young people through the courses can be viewed on this
site. To view you will have to register.
